Another week, another round of California cannabis city updates!  This week we have news from three California cities: West Hollywood, San Francisco, and Redding.

  • West Hollywood, CA: the city of West Hollywood had a city council meeting on April 2 to provide cannabis ordinance updates. On April 4, the draft cannabis screening application and weighting criteria were released.  On April 11, a public meeting will be held allowing potential cannabis business owners to ask questions about the application process.  This meeting will be held at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers (625 N. San Vincente Boulevard) at 2:00pm.
    • Final screening application and weighting criteria is planned to be released the week of April 16. From May 2 – 31 there will be a 30-day application submittal period. Based on current information, West Hollywood will issue the following licenses:
      • 8 Adult-Use Retail Business Licenses
      • 8 Consumption Area (smoking, vaping, and ingestion) with on-site adult-use retail sales business licenses
      • 8 Consumption Area (edible ingestion only) with on-site adult-use retail sales business licenses
      • 8 Medical-Use Dispensary Business Licenses
      • 8 Delivery Service Business Licenses
Once the final screening applications are released the week of April 16, expect a full write up from California Cannabis CPA.

  • San Francisco, CA: in 2018, applicants can apply for a cannabis permit if:
    • You qualify for the Cannabis Equity Program
    • You already hold a temporary permit or an Article 33 permit from the Department of Public Health
    • You had registered with the Office of Cannabis in 2017 and signed an affidavit

If you do not qualify for any of the above statements, you will have to wait until 2019 apply.  Even 2018 applications are not open quite yet! San Francisco has provided a preliminary checklist of permit application requirements if you would like to get a head start. Once we hear more, including the number of licenses that will be available, we will be sure to update you.

  • Redding, CA: a public hearing is set for April 17 at 6:00pm to discuss application and license fees for cannabis businesses. Previously, public hearings were held in early March, where the first reading was approved.
    • In addition, the public hearing will also discuss resident cannabis cultivation.  This is exciting news as it signifies the city is one step closer to accepting cannabis business applications. The hearing will take place at City Council Chambers at 777 Cypress Avenue.

  • California Cannabis Cultivation Licensing is a division of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).  This departments ensures public safety and environmental protection by licensing and regulating commercial cannabis cultivators in California.  The annual cannabis cultivation annual license application was just released. We will continue to keep you updated on the following cities, as well as any other California cities who update their cannabis laws and ordinances.  Have questions about applying for a cannabis license? Give us a shout.
